Sodium citrate is a kind of organic compound with colorless orthorhombic columnar crystal, stable in air, soluble in water and glycerol, slightly soluble in ethanol. The aqueous solution is slightly alkaline and cool when tasted. When heated to 100 ºC, it becomes dihydrate. It is commonly used as buffer, complexing agent and bacterial culture medium. It is used in medicine for diuresis, expectorant, sweating and preventing blood coagulation. It is also used in food, beverage, electroplating and photography.
